SUMMARY:DIY Comedy
DESCRIPTION:$20 + fees\nDoors 7:30pm\nComedy 8pm\n19+ Licensed Event \nFresh off his appearance in Canada’s Got Talent (CTV)\, Scott Porteous (Herbert Henries) is on tour with friends\, Frank Russo (Sudbury LOL Festival) and Mike Payne (Cottage Country Comedy Festival).\nThis stand-up comedy trio is a guaranteed laugh\, whether it’s with them\, at them or around them. \nSCOTT PORTEOUS AKA HERBERT HENRIES \nONE MAN\, MULTIPLE ACTS \nScott Porteous – Scott is one of Canada’s youngest comedy veterans. He’s not even 40 and has already been performing stand-up comedy for nearly 20 years. Some of Scott’s accolades include performing at The Winnipeg Comedy Festival\, The World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas and most recently had his alter-ego featured on Canada’s Got Talent. Scott’s style of comedy is quick\, and quirky\, with a hybrid of intelligent and just plain dumb jokes. Scott is very awkward but in a charming way… he thinks.\nHerbert Henries – Mr. Henries is the one-and-only “Comedy Dangerist” in the world! Most likely because he also invented “Comedy Dangerism”. To put it simply\, Herbert performs “Acts of Danger” while telling jokes. Herbert has been in and around comedy for less than a year and has already left his mark on Canadian Comedy. Herbert recently performed in front of the judges at Canada’s Got Talent and was told by Howie Mandel that he is “Winnipeg’s greatest comedy export”. Whether it be by his unique “dangerist-stunts”\, his jokes or his awkward yet endearing personality\, Herbert Henries is the definition of the phrase “one of a kind” \nFRANK RUSSO \nFROM CONCEPT to ABSURDITY \nFrank Russo – Frank has the unique ability to take the mundane and drag it into the absurd. Having performed in comedy clubs and indie shows across Canada for over 9 years\, Frank uses his charm\, quick wit and intelligent humour to connect with audiences from all walks of life. Now based in Calgary\, Frank has previously produced and hosted weekly comedy shows in Toronto and Halifax\, performed in festivals including Sudbury Laugh Out Loud festival\, The World Series of Comedy\, The Thunder Bay Comedy Festival\, and was a featured act in The Human Condition Cross-Canada Comedy Tour in 2019. \nMIKE PAYNE \nANOTHER SILLY MAN-CHILD \nMike Payne – Mike has been a key-player in the Toronto Comedy Scene for 6 years and has toured most of North America and Edinburgh (Scotland). Mike has worked with Yuk Yuks\, Absolute Comedy\,\nRick Bronson’s The Comic Strip and runs his acclaimed monthly show; The Stand-Up Show with Mike Payne at the world famous Comedy Bar. Mike has worked with acts including Rick Mercer\, Jeremy Hotz\, Ali Siddiq\, Simon Rakoff\, Martha Chaves\, Casey Corbin\, Cedric Newman and Aaron Berg. Mike has also appeared in festivals including The Cottage Country Comedy Festival\, The Dirty Bird Comedy Festival\, The Brantford Comedy Festival and was a winner of the Gemini Comedy Festival along side Al Val.\nMike is most commonly recognised from Burger King’s Impossible Whopper commercial (National Campaign\, 2021) as the “that’s pretty good” guy. \nTICKETS: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/diy-comedy-tour-starring-scott-porteous-frank-russo-mike-pay-tickets-607992831927

SUMMARY:SPENDO & THE VIDOS LIVE AT THE EFFIE
DESCRIPTION:Two of Vancouver’s most popular upcoming bands SPENDO & THE VIDOS team up for a diverse night of rock n roll \nDOORS 7PM \nTOMMY CARSON 730 \nTHE VIDOS 830 \nSPENDO 945 \nSPENDO\nBased out of Vancouver BC\, Spendo is made up of five like-hearted\, experienced multi-instrumentalists. Sharing a love for modern & classic rock\, they exude a 1970’s California vibe\, drawing inspiration from and paying respect to the music of that timeless era. \nIn 2022\, Spendo ventured into “The Great Unknown”\, turning heads with their well-received single “Fighter\,” followed recently by their second single “Easy to Lie”\, both of which were recorded with legendary Canadian producer Danny Craig (Default\, One Bad Son) who also produced their second EP “The Great Unknown” released March 11th 2023. \nThe band’s powerful live performance has led them to many sold out hometown shows. They’ve also landed on some big stages\, rubbing elbows with Canadian Rock Royalty (PRISM\, 54-40\, and Daniel Wesley). They were also crowned “Best In Vancouver” 2022. These five fine gentlemen have been itching to show the world what they’re capable of\, and their long and fruitful journey is only just beginning. \n“I believe they have what it takes to get to the next level. They are great people\, they have a kick ass show and I believe they’re going places.” -Mike Fraser AC/DC\, AEROSMITH \n“If you are looking for a band that rocks hard – That plays laid back funky grooves as well as heavy blues based grooves – with killer harmonies-\, this is the band for you !! The world is in need of a band like Spendo !!!” -Danny Miranda BLUE OYSTER CULT \nTHE VIDOS\nThe Vidos (rhymes with “Speedos”) are three gringos from British Columbia\, Canada with an affinity for pop hooks\, creative drumming\, and stacked harmonies — and fuzz on all of ‘em. They started making music together in high school\, cracking the Top 40 in Canadian Active Rock with their songs “Car Trouble” and “Perfect Stranger”. \nAlongside longtime producer Danny Craig\, The Vidos have arrived at a sound playfully described as “sludge pop” and look forward to releasing a collection of brand new material fitting that description in 2023. \nPrior to March 2020\, the boys had toured the country nine times in the span of 3 and a half years\, including a “hellish” 7-month stint living on their tour bus in Toronto in an effort to demolish their comfort zone and perform on a nightly basis. Known for their witty lyrics and onstage banter\, The Vidos have gradually cultivated their live show into an immersive\, genre-bending\, fourth-wall-shattering performance and have become one of Canada’s most promising and unpredictable groups in the process. \nTheir debut record “Right in the Kisser!” is out everywhere now! \nTICKETS:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/spendo-the-vidos-live-at-the-effie-arts-collective-tickets-612563693497

In addition to this she loves to point out the absurd and strange in every day life.\nPrior to taking the plunge into stand up\, Bonnie performed with the Okanagan’s premier improv group\, Monkey With a Button\, as well as spending a good 3 years doing critically acclaimed theatrical productions (mainly so she could show off how well she can do accents).\n\n\nKamloops Comedy Open Mic provides comedians with opportunities to get out in front of a crowd and work on their craft. It is a safe space for comedians (fans may be triggered) to get up and put it all out there. \n\n\nTICKETS:\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/bonnie-esson-headlines-the-kamloops-comedy-open-mic-tickets-606773234077

SUMMARY:Coffee House Open Mic Starring Maddie Storvold
DESCRIPTION:Doors 1:00pm\nOpen Mic 1-2 pm\nConcert 2:30pm\nAll Ages Event\n$20 General Admission\n$10 Student Admission\n$5 Performers \n\n\n Tough and sweet like gravel in honey\, she can make you laugh and cry\, think and ache -all in the same hour. Storvold’s music seeks to tell a story\, to challenge us\, to sparkdelight\, and to touch a fragile part of the human spirit. Funny and fresh-faced\, this storysinger is quickly gaining attention across Canada as a voice to be reckoned with\,harkening in a new generation of folk icons. \n\n\nMaddie Storvold is the proverbial black sheep love child of folk singer Joan Baez andcomedian Steven Wright. Her songs “could well be heard drifting out of a GreenwichVillage folk club in the 1960’s” (Edmonton Folk Fest). Born on an airforce base inNorthern Alberta\, but raised a nomad\, based in the Middle East\, she had traveled toover 30 countries by the time she turned 18 and moved back to Canada to complete adegree in English & Philosophy. This wealth of diverse experiences and the intimatestudy of the craft of words can certainly be heard in the singer’s music. In February2019\, Storvold released a ballad\, “Don’t Say You Love Me”\, written and produced byBryan Adams. The single shot to #1 on the country charts in less than 3 hours. As a liveperformer\, Storvold has been described as having a “commanding stage presence\, aquirky sense of humour\, and a knack for capturing moments in song” (Vue Weekly) – likeif Joni Mitchell did stand-up. A fast regular on the festival circuit\, Storvold has broughtstories and songs to the Edmonton Folk Fest\, Canmore Folk Fest\, Tiny Lights\, BearCreek Folk Festival\, Wild Mountain Music Festival\, Festival d’ete\, Cavendish BeachMusic Festival\, Calgary Stampede\, Interstellar Rodeo\, and many more. She offers acatalog of tender flower folk – with a splash of piss and vinegar – at the forefront of anew generation of storytellers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS:\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/599791150477

SUMMARY:Coffee House Open Mic Starring Claire Coupland
DESCRIPTION:Doors 1:00pm\nOpen Mic 1:00-2:00 pm\nConcert 2:30-4:00pm\nAll Ages Event \n\n\n$20 General Admission\n$10 Student Admission\n$5 Performers \n  \n\nThere  is a pureness to Claire’s voice that can silence a room.  A moving  songwriter and compelling guitarist\, Claire combines smooth folk finger  picking\, jazz influenced progressions and soaring melodies. She  effortlessly pulls her audience into her personal world of life  experiences. Like many others\, the stasis of the pandemic left Claire  Coupland to look inward toward a collection of stories and songs that  had been lying dormant in her imagination. Darker and more vulnerable  reckonings of self worth\, escaping abuse\, painful goodbyes\, fragile  family dynamics and hope for the future are all intricately woven themes  in her sophomore album entitled\, “New Light”\, coming February\, 2023.  After joining forces with Juno award winning musician Sam Weber  (Bahamas) and some of LA’s finest musicians (Dawes\, Alan Hampton\, Garret  Lang)\, the album presents fresh and spontaneous arrangements of her  songs with mood filled percussion\, slinky guitars\, sparkling piano and  shades of grunge and California rock.  Claire Coupland brings a graceful  contemporary feel to indie folk music\, always with a touch of her  “wicked sense of humour” (Rik Emmett\, Triumph).
