SUMMARY:SPENDO & THE VIDOS LIVE AT THE EFFIE
DESCRIPTION:Two of Vancouver’s most popular upcoming bands SPENDO & THE VIDOS team up for a diverse night of rock n roll \nDOORS 7PM \nTOMMY CARSON 730 \nTHE VIDOS 830 \nSPENDO 945 \nSPENDO\nBased out of Vancouver BC\, Spendo is made up of five like-hearted\, experienced multi-instrumentalists. Sharing a love for modern & classic rock\, they exude a 1970’s California vibe\, drawing inspiration from and paying respect to the music of that timeless era. \nIn 2022\, Spendo ventured into “The Great Unknown”\, turning heads with their well-received single “Fighter\,” followed recently by their second single “Easy to Lie”\, both of which were recorded with legendary Canadian producer Danny Craig (Default\, One Bad Son) who also produced their second EP “The Great Unknown” released March 11th 2023. \nThe band’s powerful live performance has led them to many sold out hometown shows. They’ve also landed on some big stages\, rubbing elbows with Canadian Rock Royalty (PRISM\, 54-40\, and Daniel Wesley). They were also crowned “Best In Vancouver” 2022. These five fine gentlemen have been itching to show the world what they’re capable of\, and their long and fruitful journey is only just beginning. \n“I believe they have what it takes to get to the next level. They are great people\, they have a kick ass show and I believe they’re going places.” -Mike Fraser AC/DC\, AEROSMITH \n“If you are looking for a band that rocks hard – That plays laid back funky grooves as well as heavy blues based grooves – with killer harmonies-\, this is the band for you !! The world is in need of a band like Spendo !!!” -Danny Miranda BLUE OYSTER CULT \nTHE VIDOS\nThe Vidos (rhymes with “Speedos”) are three gringos from British Columbia\, Canada with an affinity for pop hooks\, creative drumming\, and stacked harmonies — and fuzz on all of ‘em. They started making music together in high school\, cracking the Top 40 in Canadian Active Rock with their songs “Car Trouble” and “Perfect Stranger”. \nAlongside longtime producer Danny Craig\, The Vidos have arrived at a sound playfully described as “sludge pop” and look forward to releasing a collection of brand new material fitting that description in 2023. \nPrior to March 2020\, the boys had toured the country nine times in the span of 3 and a half years\, including a “hellish” 7-month stint living on their tour bus in Toronto in an effort to demolish their comfort zone and perform on a nightly basis. Known for their witty lyrics and onstage banter\, The Vidos have gradually cultivated their live show into an immersive\, genre-bending\, fourth-wall-shattering performance and have become one of Canada’s most promising and unpredictable groups in the process. \nTheir debut record “Right in the Kisser!” is out everywhere now! \nTICKETS:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/spendo-the-vidos-live-at-the-effie-arts-collective-tickets-612563693497

SUMMARY:Coffee House Open Mic Starring Maddie Storvold
DESCRIPTION:Doors 1:00pm\nOpen Mic 1-2 pm\nConcert 2:30pm\nAll Ages Event\n$20 General Admission\n$10 Student Admission\n$5 Performers \n\n\n Tough and sweet like gravel in honey\, she can make you laugh and cry\, think and ache -all in the same hour. Storvold’s music seeks to tell a story\, to challenge us\, to sparkdelight\, and to touch a fragile part of the human spirit. Funny and fresh-faced\, this storysinger is quickly gaining attention across Canada as a voice to be reckoned with\,harkening in a new generation of folk icons. \n\n\nMaddie Storvold is the proverbial black sheep love child of folk singer Joan Baez andcomedian Steven Wright. Her songs “could well be heard drifting out of a GreenwichVillage folk club in the 1960’s” (Edmonton Folk Fest). Born on an airforce base inNorthern Alberta\, but raised a nomad\, based in the Middle East\, she had traveled toover 30 countries by the time she turned 18 and moved back to Canada to complete adegree in English & Philosophy. This wealth of diverse experiences and the intimatestudy of the craft of words can certainly be heard in the singer’s music. In February2019\, Storvold released a ballad\, “Don’t Say You Love Me”\, written and produced byBryan Adams. The single shot to #1 on the country charts in less than 3 hours. As a liveperformer\, Storvold has been described as having a “commanding stage presence\, aquirky sense of humour\, and a knack for capturing moments in song” (Vue Weekly) – likeif Joni Mitchell did stand-up. A fast regular on the festival circuit\, Storvold has broughtstories and songs to the Edmonton Folk Fest\, Canmore Folk Fest\, Tiny Lights\, BearCreek Folk Festival\, Wild Mountain Music Festival\, Festival d’ete\, Cavendish BeachMusic Festival\, Calgary Stampede\, Interstellar Rodeo\, and many more. She offers acatalog of tender flower folk – with a splash of piss and vinegar – at the forefront of anew generation of storytellers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS:\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/599791150477

SUMMARY:Coffee House Open Mic Starring Claire Coupland
DESCRIPTION:Doors 1:00pm\nOpen Mic 1:00-2:00 pm\nConcert 2:30-4:00pm\nAll Ages Event \n\n\n$20 General Admission\n$10 Student Admission\n$5 Performers \n  \n\nThere  is a pureness to Claire’s voice that can silence a room.  A moving  songwriter and compelling guitarist\, Claire combines smooth folk finger  picking\, jazz influenced progressions and soaring melodies. She  effortlessly pulls her audience into her personal world of life  experiences. Like many others\, the stasis of the pandemic left Claire  Coupland to look inward toward a collection of stories and songs that  had been lying dormant in her imagination. Darker and more vulnerable  reckonings of self worth\, escaping abuse\, painful goodbyes\, fragile  family dynamics and hope for the future are all intricately woven themes  in her sophomore album entitled\, “New Light”\, coming February\, 2023.  After joining forces with Juno award winning musician Sam Weber  (Bahamas) and some of LA’s finest musicians (Dawes\, Alan Hampton\, Garret  Lang)\, the album presents fresh and spontaneous arrangements of her  songs with mood filled percussion\, slinky guitars\, sparkling piano and  shades of grunge and California rock.  Claire Coupland brings a graceful  contemporary feel to indie folk music\, always with a touch of her  “wicked sense of humour” (Rik Emmett\, Triumph).

SUMMARY:Bad Magic & Myles from Home
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver based Modern Alt Rock/Dark R&B band **Bad Magic** is an explosive combination of deep grooves\, thoughtful lyrical content and headbanger approved riffs. Helmed by lead singer and songwriter Eric Novak\, the band has been described as “if Prince could scream\, wrote songs for Arctic Monkeys and grew up going to punk shows”. With a ferocious appetite for connection and living in the moment at their live shows\, the band implores the audience to feel your way through the darkness and get you dancing with your shadow. \nMyles From Home is an offspring from the “classic” era of rock when amps were stacked on amps and the louder you sang\, the harder you rocked. Though the Linden\, Manitoba native channels his inner rock god\, as heard from the songs in his [recordings]\, he does so quietly amongst folk-rock instrumentation. After studying engineering and frontmaning the band Café Racer in Montreal\, Myles is now based in Vancouver\, BC. He released his second album “Reading\, Riting and Rithmetic” in 2019\, a collection of songs about love and math\, which he self-recorded and produced while finishing his masters thesis on an implosion driven launcher. \n
