SUMMARY:Late Hours Western Canada Tour
DESCRIPTION:LATE HOURS \nWESTERN CANADA TOUR 2025 \nMUSIC BY KARL HIRZER & JOSUÉ VALDEPEÑAS \nFILMS BY BRADEN DERENIWSKI & VICKI VAN CHAU \nSPECIAL GUEST DANIELA CINEL \nDoors 6:30 Show 7:00pm \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1234318633259 \nProminent figures in the Canadian classical music scene\, Karl Hirzer and Josué Valdepeñas perform standard works from the modern and classical repertoire in addition to original songs\, mixing electronic and acoustic instruments. Drawing from a wide variety of influences\, their music has been described as “heady and psychedelic” and “Satie meets Radiohead”. \nBased on Hirzer and Valdepeñas’ track of the same name\, Crystal Clear is an innovative and gripping music and dance film. It follows a young woman who undertakes a visceral journey through her own psyche as she reflects on both her actions and the events that will decide her fate. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Braden Dereniwski\, it features captivating performances by Kelsie Vanstone and Ashley Mae Johnston\, with choreography by Yukichi Hattori. We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and Calgary Arts Development for this film. \nFeaturing and inspired by Hirzer’s track Daphne and Desmond\, off his recent album Relaxer Distractor\, In Tandem is a short film shot on Super 8 by awardwinning filmmaker Vicki Van Chau. It is a love letter to the meaningful spaces between two cities\, where Hirzer found sources of inspiration\, nostalgia and the feeling of home. Recently it received the ‘Best Experimental’ award at the 2024 Edmonton Short Film Festival. This film is supported by the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society and the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. \nTraversing the multi-sensory landscape\, Canadian artist Daniela Cinel O’Fee creates immersive experiences to investigate the flux between acoustic and visual realms. With a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Victoria\, Daniela has worked as a pianist\, director\, composer and educator in British Columbia for over forty years. Informed by her sonic curiosity\, her practice extends the act of listening beyond traditional music making toward experimental intermedia using repurposed instrument parts\, obsolete media machines\, sculptural installation\, field recording\, performative soundwalks and graphic scores. \nRuntime: Approx. 130 minute performance including 1 intermission. \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1234318633259

SUMMARY:Harry Bartlett
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1034649914747 \nHarry Bartlett \nHarry Bartlett is a Canadian guitarist and composer currently living in Nashville\, TN. With a background in jazz and an affinity for Americana music\, Harry’s compositions “transcend a single genre” (Textura). Blending an improvisational approach with old time\, folk\, and western influences\, his music is markedly personal.\nGrowing up in the Pacific Northwest\, Harry moved to Toronto in 2016 to study jazz guitar at the University of Toronto and relocated again to Nashville in 2023 to pursue his interest in folk and string band music.  While he performs regularly as a band leader and a sideperson across North America\, coastal BC continues to inspire much of his work.\nPerforming his own compositions with his band\, Harry has appeared in festivals and venues including The 5 Spot (Nashville)\, Jazz YYC (Calgary)\, Music Niagara (Niagara)\, The Rex Hotel (Toronto)\, The  Brookstreet Hotel (Ottawa)\, Resonance Café (Montreal)\, Tangent Cafe  (Vancouver)\, Herman’s Jazz Club (Victoria)\, and the Lighthouse Bistro (Nanaimo).\nIn 2021 the Harry Bartlett Trio recorded Wildwood\, which “blends Jazz\, Folk\, and Western music styles into an extraordinarily creative listening experience” (Midwest Book Review). The compositions were written and recorded over a 6 month period on Gambier Island BC. The rugged\, isolated character of the BC coast permeate this record lending qualities of reverence and peace. Wildwood was released November 18th  2022. Following the success of Wildwood\, Harry relocated to Nashville TN to pursue his interest in Appalachian folk music. Under the mentorship of esteemed composer and bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice\, Harry developed a repertoire of original works for guitar\, violin\, and double bass. With support from the Suba Institute\, Harry recorded his latest project\, “Mountain Air” with an all-star cast of Canadian folk-jazz musicians\, including Aline Homzy on violin and Andrew Downing on bass. Released May 31st 2024\, “Mountain Air” showcases Harry’s breadth as a composer and guitarist. In addition to an active performing career\, Harry has toured public schools across Canada leading improvisation workshops. He developed these workshops in 2019 with the aid of the FMUA. \nHarry holds a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music (2016-2020) and attended the School of Improvised Music in Brooklyn\, New York (2019). He is the recipient of multiple awards including the Suba Institute Award for Performance Excellence\, the Mary Alice Stuart Jazz Scholarship\, a Neo-Traditional award from The Appalachian Music String Band Festival in West Virginia\, and the TD Niagara Jazz Festival Jazz for the Ages Award. \n  \nEvan Snoey \nAn artist and creative at heart\, Evan Snoey has explored and dived into many mediums of music and art. His background in traditional styles combined with a contemporary music education allow him to not only thrive in jazz\, bluegrass\, old-time\, chamber and improvisatory music but to push and blend them together.

Evan has been playing music since he was five\, first learning the fiddle. He grew up playing dance music\, and has pursued many traditional styles since then. He sought out new instruments to learn\, and new music to play. He has studied old- time\, bluegrass\, Scandinavian\, Scottish\, swing & jazz\, and contemporary improvisational music.  In 2017\, Evan was selected to participate in the competitive Savannah Music Festival Acoustic Music Seminar\, which provided an opportunity to work intimately with masters like Mike Marshall\, Bryan Sutton\, Darell Scott\, Darol Anger\, Alex Hargreaves\, Jenny Scheinman and more. Evan has also shared the stage with the likes of Peter Rowan\, John Reischmann\, and Robert Glasper. At the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music\, he  studied under Matt Turner and Jose Encarnacion\, and got the opportunity to work alongside movement artist Mauriah Donegan Kraker. As a solo artist Evan has an EP of original music slated for release in Spring 2025. \n  \nEmilio \nEmilio is a Calgary born musician and composer. His love for music brought him to Vancouver in 2015. He completed his studies and was awarded his bachelor of music in Jazz Studies at Capilano University in 2020. In Calgary Emilio studied double bass with Rubim DeToledo\, Head of faculty of Grant Macewen Jazz Department\, and Classical bass with Sheila Garrett\, Assistant principle bass chair of the Calgary Philharmonic. Since then he has gone to study with Cody Hutchinson\, John Day\, and Vancouver’s own Darren Radtke\, Andre Lechance\, and Jodi Proznick. Emilio’s style is a dynamic range from jazz and bebop to contemporary\, classical\, and pop. He has been featured on many recordings that cross all these genres. His latest work is featured in recordings with Vancouver artists KAIS\, 45th Avenue Jazz Band\, Ilhan Saferali\, Noriko Jazz\, and EITHER EITHER. \n  \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1034649914747

SUMMARY:The Prairie Joggers with The Bunchgrass Boys
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1034156147877 \nDoors 6:30 Show 7:00pm \nMinors allowed accompanied by an adult \n$15 advance $20 at the door plus fees and taxes \nBlending warm electric guitar\, raw vocals and dampened drums\, The Prairie Joggers form a thick vintage sound that cushions their bleak but not entirely hopeless lyrical themes. What the band lacks in bells and whistles they make up for with a sincere sense of nostalgia that agrees with their charismatic live performances and minimalistic approach to instrumentals. \nThe Bunchgrass Boys play upbeat traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. Anyone who likes clean acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmonies will enjoy listening to this band\, and singing along if you like. The songs of Bill Monroe\, the Stanley Brothers\, and Flatt and Scruggs and more modern “bluegrassers” are included in their performances. Our name reflects the wonderful area around Kamloops where we live\, and the abundant native bunchgrass that made Kamloops a true ranching town \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1034156147877

SUMMARY:Layten Kramer and Brandon Wolfe Scott
DESCRIPTION:Minors Allowed Accompanied by an Adult \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1013803362147 \nDoors 7:00pm Show 7:30 \nBrandon Wolfe Scott is a singer-songwriter based in Vancouver\, Canada\, best known as the guitarist and co-songwriter in the JUNO Award-nominated indie rock group Yukon Blonde. The band released their sixth full-length album\, Shuggie\, on October 12\, 2023\, and concluded an East Coast Canadian tour in the same month. When not busy with the band\, Brandon is working on his solo endeavours. \nOn February 9\, 2024\, he’ll share his new solo single\, “Sun Shadows.” The song emerged last summer when he accompanied his partner on a work trip to Northern BC and returned to the small mill town of his childhood after nearly a decade. So many things had changed in his life since\, and he was interested to see the real elements of his nostalgic memories. Eager to share his roots with his partner\, the couple transformed the journey into a road trip and a quasi-songwriting retreat. \nHowever\, with their dog in tow\, lodging options were limited\, leading them to a worn-out motel frequented by a transient crowd. The envisioned tranquil space for creativity transformed into a stark reflection of daily struggles outside our window. “Witnessing poverty and addiction in northern BC left me disheartened and resentful toward the political climate perpetuating these issues\,” says Brandon. “Since then\, I have often asked myself\, how can I put kindness into the world?” A daunting task amidst the ongoing turmoil.” \nBrandon continues\, “Lyrically\, this song was inspired by the surroundings in which I originally recorded\, being in that rundown motel room close to where I grew up\, surrounded by people going through hardship\, but it also has much bigger connotations linking hardships to those being faced globally.” It served as a reminder for him to acknowledge his privilege\, being able to seclude himself in a room all day crafting music—an opportunity he should always appreciate and never overlook. \n“Sun Shadows” is the first new music from Brandon since he released his self-produced third EP\, Slow Transmission\, on March 23\, 2023\, via Dine Alone Records. The album featured five original songs\, including “Fade Out” and “In Stride.” The new music garnered support from various platforms such as SiriusXM’s “North Americana\,” CBC Radio 3\, Georgia Straight\, Afterdark on CBC Music\, Americana UK\, PhotogMusic\, Red Guitar Music\, Alan Cross’ “5 Songs You Must Hear\,” CBC Radio One\, CBC q\, Eat North\, CFMU’s “I Heart Hamilton\,” CoveFM’s “When We Wake\,” Exclaim\, and many more. \nHis 2020 Sophomore EP\, Burden On Your Shoulders (Dine Alone Records)\, gained him nationwide recognition and cemented him in the public eye as a talented songwriter\, engineer\, and producer. Notable collaborations include co-writing and producing with STACEY on her debut album\, Saturn Returns (2021). \nIn October 2014\, Layten Kramer released his first EP Through The Days\, after spending a long winter in the Pacific Northwest. The EP featured acclaimed song Sea of Glass that was put into rotation on CBC Radio 2. Shortly thereafter Kramer embarked on a tour across Western Canada where he and his bandmates cut their teeth on the road. Both his EP and the tour were well received garnering acclaim within the Canadian music sphere\, including the JUNO Awards\, Ride The Tempo\, and Digital Journal. \nIn April 2016\, Kramer released his first full-length LP collaborating with JUNO Award Winning Producer and dear friend Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan\, Yukon Blonde\, Sleepy Sun). Featured on the record were also the musical styling’s of Kathryn Calder of The New Pornographers and Geoff Hillhorst of The Deep Dark Woods. For the Sun\, embodies a change in direction taking Kramer’s recognized folk sound and adding experimental song structure and lush\, psychedelic soundscapes\, all the while maintaining intriguing lyrics and catchy\, clever hooks. This release was followed up by two very successful tours in the west and the signing to Oscar Street Records. \nKramer’s most recent release ‘Glory’ (2018) is a haunting collection of songs that explore the perspective of individuals\, both internally and externally\, when exposed to the reality of heartbreak and mental illness. “The time we spend learning and struggling with who we are and who the people are around us often amounts to a valuable lesson\,” says Kramer\, “and what we find at the end of each lesson is a little bit of glory. The collection of songs is intended to highlight the incredible resilience each and every person has in my life.” Paired with stunning instrumentation and clever arrangements\, Kramer’s recognized psychedelic-folk sound has transcended into a gritty acid-western aesthetic. \n‘Dear Apathy\,’ illustrates the genuine growth in Kramer’s unmistakable songwriting and arranging. Released April 16\, 2021\, the 9 songs explore the stark contrast of Kramer’s inner vision with the external perspective and pressures of their surroundings. \n  \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1013803362147

SUMMARY:Stephen Hamm the Theremin Man Live at The Effie
DESCRIPTION:“Hamm is a commanding presence and with his theremin he creates a swirling\, ethereal soundtrack of the cosmos.” – Mike Usinger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/stephen-hamm-the-theremin-man-live-at-the-effie-kamloops-tickets-887272083687 \nDoors 7pm Show 7:30pm \n$15+ eventbrite fees in advance $20 at the door \nLicenced Venue – Minors Allowed accompanied by an Adult \nA legendary member of the Vancouver Music scene for over thirty years\, Stephen Hamm continues a prolific\, adventurous musical career and has become one of Canada’s most unforgettable and beloved performers. Stephen has played in bands like Slow\, Canned Hamm and Nardwuar And The Evaporators. \nA multi instrumentalist\, Stephen Hamm has shifted his focus to mastering the theremin. The theremin is an early electronic instrument that is touchless: a thereminist interacts with magnetic fields around the two antennae on a theremin rather than actually touching the instrument. Stephen has been thrilling audiences at clubs and festivals with his wildly creative solo show based around theremin and synthesizer and has been taking them on an electro musical journey into new abstract dimensions of sound! \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/stephen-hamm-the-theremin-man-live-at-the-effie-kamloops-tickets-887272083687

SUMMARY:Daniel Champagne Live at The Effie
DESCRIPTION:April 4th 2024 BOTH SHOWS SOLD OUT!\n \n EARLY SHOW: Doors 5:30pm Music 6pm. SOLD OUT\n \nLATE SHOW: Doors 7:30pm Music 8pm. SOLD OUT \nAll Ages Event. \nDaniel Champagne lives and breathes live music. The Australian virtuoso has been described as “the finest guitar player of this generation”\, “a leading light in acoustic music” and “a performer that must be seen to be believed” and from March to June 2024\, music lovers across Canada will be treated to an intimate live experience not to be missed! \nGrowing up in the Bega Valley\, on the Far South Coast of New South Wales Australia\, the story goes that the young singer-songwriter and one of a kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a 5-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12\, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could\, honing his craft and developing the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he finished school\, turned professional and hit the road without looking back. \nThe following 15 years have seen him independently release 7 studio albums\, tour relentlessly around the globe\, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel\, INXS\, John Butler\, Lucinda Williams\, Ani DiFranco\, Judy Collins and Rodrigo y Gabriela. \nPlaying upwards of 250 shows a year\, Daniel is passionate about spreading live music around the world and on the back of a sold out 2022 tour tour\, his return trip will include 56 shows from Vancouver Island all the way out to Newfoundland! \nWHAT THE PRESS SAY.. \n“The word Prodigy seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills\, he coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” The Calgary Herald\, CANADA \n“Today I saw the future of Folk – Festival goers flocking in the thousands towards the main stage to witness a young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper.” The Firefly Column\, USA \n“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads. Fusing the strong traditions of Blues\, Folk and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.” The Indie Blender\, CANADA \n“reinventing roots guitar” Rhythms Magazine\, AUSTRALIA \n“Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art.” BW Review\, NEW ZEALAND \n“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage\, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band\, Champagne is just magical” Themusic.com.au\, AUSTRALIA \n“You feel as if he just invented the instrument yesterday and was discovering its possibilities afresh” Ted Gioia (American jazz critic and music historian) \nBOTH SHOWS SOLD OUT

SUMMARY:Flowshine with The Houses Where We Grew Up
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/849939420687 \nFlowshine with The Houses (WWGU) at The Effie – Kamloops\nDoors 630pm\nShow 7- 10pm \nMinors allowed accompained by an Adult\nLicensed Venue \nJoin us for a night of Flowshine with the incredible band The Houses (Where We Grew Up) and special guests Jade the Babe at The Effie Arts Collective in Kamloops! Get ready to groove to their amazing tunes and enjoy a fantastic live music experience. \nFlowshine has spent the last decade carving their own path a little left of centre. Their love of adventure\, experience\, and bringing people together with music has taken them from their home in Calgary to oft overlooked corners of the country. Their openness to experimentation and desire to make something wondrous has left their peers unsure of how to characterize their brand of hooky indie/alternative. Their songs demonstrate strong musicianship\, relatable storytelling\, and often feature musical guests lending their signature to the Flowshine whole. Guitarist and vocalist Jeremiah Erhardt has said\, “We want our music to be fun and emotive; we want people to jump in our canoe and let us guide them down the river\, showing them things they’ve never experienced.” \nThey have been cutting their teeth\, sharing stages with bands like Five Alarm Funk\, The Wooden Sky\, and Chilliwack. They have spent thousands of hours in a van and have performed in an eclectic and extensive list of pubs\, clubs\, campfires\, farm fields\, cafes\, basements\, community centres\, festival stages\, street corners\, and the like; from Dawson City\, Yukon to the heart of Halifax\, NS. \nThe Houses (Where We Grew Up) are timeless like lawn darts\, hopeless like -insert local sports club here- and heavenly like the roof of the Sistine Chapel\, riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo like a rhinestone cowboy. \nWith interests ranging from the 2013 science fiction film Cowboys vs Aliens to Vanilla Ice (cream)\, their sound is described by some as definitely audible. And if there is one thing a cowboy knows\, it’s jazz. \nA drummer who hits the drums like he’s trying to kill all the bugs crawling on his kit and a guitarist who caresses his guitar like a man who’s never experienced the touch of a woman\, these two rad dudes are somehow both cool and rude at the same time. Amazing! \nHolding the title for the “Longest Rock Record by a Kamloops Duo”\, they are simplicity juxtaposed with chaos\, anarchy with balladry\, the quiet and the calamity\, the Rob and the Sean\, The Houses (Where We Grew Up). \nTICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/849939420687
