DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed singer/songwriters Jordan Klassen and David Vertesi (of Hey Ocean!) bring their Margins Tour to Kamloops at The Effie Arts Collective on Sunday October 15th.\nTickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door (general admission)\nStudents: $15 advance or $20 at the door (with valid Student ID)\n\nTICKETS:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/699449772097\n\nAbout Jordan Klassen\nJordan Klassen’s seventh album\, Glossolalia\, which was released in 2022 and recorded during the pandemic without a large studio or much fuss\, could probably best be described as a blessing in disguise. The singer songwriter and producer from Vancouver mostly withdrew in order to write and record\, composing the album with mostly vocals and guitar\, creating a subtly blossoming collection of songs that perhaps nailed his “fairy folk for troubled times” approach better than ever before. Klassen seemingly tapped into a new creative well\, as Glossolalia was only the first half of the material written and recorded in this period. “Cocoon” is the first taste from this forthcoming sisterly companion. More details and new music are to follow.\n\nAbout David Vertesi\nA multi-faceted artist\, David Vertesi is best known as the bassist with the popular Canadian pop group Hey Ocean!\, but he has also collaborated with a wide range of other artists and established himself as a promising singer and songwriter with a burgeoning solo career. A native of Vancouver\, Vertesi developed an interest in music when he was young and began writing songs when he was 13 years old. His big break came when he saw singer Ashleigh Ball and guitarist David Beckingham playing a club show\, and told the duo he was just the man to play bass for them. Ball and Beckingham decided to give Vertesi a try\, and Hey Ocean! was born. Incorporating witty lyrics with light funk and Caribbean rhythms\, Hey Ocean! slowly but surely developed a mass following in Canada\, releasing their albums — 2006’s Stop Looking Like Music and 2009’s It’s Easier to Be Somebody Else — through their own Pop Machine label. As Hey Ocean! became increasingly successful\, Vertesi began branching out and working with a number of promising artists\, including hip-hop artist Shad K.\, indie pop vocalist Hannah Georgas\, and Jose Miguel Contreras of the group By Divine Right. Vertesi also began performing with the over-the-top electronics meets garage-pop band Topless Gay Love Tekno Party. But in 2010\, he took a break from the lighthearted music that had been his trademark and focused on more personal concerns as he recorded his first solo effort. 2010’s Cardiography was a witty but emotionally potent set of songs about the upsides and downsides of relationships; produced by Vertesi and Contreras\, the album received strong reviews and Vertesi played a number of solo shows in support as his schedule with Hey Ocean! permitted. Often found outside naked (his friends call him Beach Santa)\, Myles enjoys singing\, playing guitar and harmonica and splits his time between measuring neutrons from nuclear fusion experiments and singing songs about love. The answer is quite simple: ALL THREE of us! Phil\, Steph & Neil comprise the entity that is James Blonde. These multi talented men have been writing bad jokes and great music together forming the band you know as James Blonde. Making their grand entrance onto the music scene in their hometown of Niagara Falls on NYE 2017\, with their first concert as James Blonde\, they opened for Sam Roberts Band and Serena Ryder. Following their full length self-titled release in 2017\, the lead single “Heartbreak” was picked up by major Spotify playlists and Starbucks\, adding the song to its in-store radio across the globe. “Sh!tshow”\, the bands follow-up single in 2019\, reached #96 on the US Top 40 chart. \nRETROFILE\nBy combining the melody driven hooks of 80s pop\, the rhythmic pulse of disco and the guitar/synth interplay of 00’s rock\, RETROFILE burst onto the alternative music scene in 2017 with the release of their debut single Two Words. Recorded in twin brothers Luke and Noah Martino’s makeshift studio\, the single became a suprise word of mouth sensation\, garnering hundreds of thousands of streams within months of release and kickstarting their career. In 2019\, with a wave of sold out live shows under their belts and an enthusiastic fan base backing them\, RETROFILE released their debut EP Heard It All Before. Spawning two successful singles (Running and Heard It All Before)\, the EP saw the twins invigorate their sound and look with a blend of new wave and modern pop sensibilities. Although the global pandemic halted their live performance ambitions\, RETROFILE took the downtime as chance to write and perfect material for their next EP “Lost In Sound” (out September 14 2023).
